As the performance of and demands on horses have increased over the past few decades, so has the search for therapies to assist in healing and improve performance. Equine acupuncture has developed and expanded to meet these demands. Acupuncture is being used to treat horses used for a wide variety of functions, including racing, reigning, endurance, show jumping, hunting, dressage and for pleasure riding.
TCM equine acupuncture bases diagnosis on examination of the pulses, as well tongue diagnosis and traditional Chinese medical theory. The meridian system and points were developed by the Chinese centuries ago and is still of relevance today. However I also take into account Western Veterinary diagnosis.
Because acupuncture is an energetic medicine working on the body’s subtle energies TCM is therefore able to treat a great many ailments.
Most commonly treated are Tendons, skeletal issues (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral), Respiratory disorders, Laminitis, Cushings, liver and stomach disorders. ‘Marish Behaviour’.
