Based on the theory of Chinese Medicine, all diseases with pain are caused by a blockage within the meridians or stagnation of qi and blood.
The meridian system includes fourteen meridians and collaterals. They are the pathways that carry qi, blood and body fluid in the body.
They are also communication lines between all parts of the body. The fourteen meridians are main trunks running deep inside the body with clearly defined routes and the collaterals are the branches of the meridian system.
Together they are kept warm by yang qi and also transport qi, blood and body fluid to nourish the whole body. If they are smooth with good elasticity, the qi, blood and body fluid will flow normally and naturally. There will be no pain, however, in some pathological conditions if the meridian is attacked by certain pathogens or trauma or is not kept warm enough by the yang qi, the meridians may become blocked and pain will occur.
Most sports injuries are due to over-use or injury to a limb which will result in the meridian local to the area of damage becoming blocked, which will result in the impaired flow of qi, causing swelling to the area, pain and an impaired flow of blood or bruising.
By using Acupuncture and choosing points local to the area of pain. The normal flow of qi, blood and body fluids can be restored thus reducing pain and healing the area.
